As I head to London today for our latest Scottish Business Network drinks reception I ponder the diversity of those who comprise "oor wee" community.
We share a strong bond with Scotland - of course!
Are active in business - founders, owners, senior execs, advisors, investors, students, charities, universities and all are welcome.
Understand the benefits that will be generated by an evening in the company of "folk like us" where we will meet friends old and new.
But more than that, I believe a community is an extension of the family.
We are bonded together, there to support our brothers and sisters close by and those cousins we haven't met spread across the globe - who we call our diaspora.
Christine Esson and I sit as the custodians of the Scottish Business Network. Keeping the blood of information and opportunity flowing. - the heartbeat perhaps?
Not owners, not shareholders, certainly we don't generate monies (the opposite in fact) from this voluntary community funded by members.
Our community is powered by committed volunteers based in Scotland, across the UK (Ambassador Jonny Downie hosts us for drinks tonight) and by an incredible ambassador network from Seattle to Singapore and from Sydney to San Paulo - S for Scotland, get it :)
The goal of our group is simple, to benefit Scotland by leveraging our networks, experience and expertise by creating new connections for...... well folk just like you :)
